The Maya were one of the most highly evolved ancient civilizations. 2012 - UNDERSTANDING THE MAYA PROPHECY

 

The Maya Prophecy says that the world goes through a series of cycles, each one called a ‘Sun’ by the Maya. At the end of each Sun, the world experiences a cataclysm, civilisation collapses, and a new mankind evolves. The Maya believed – and still believe – that there have been four Suns. We are now in the period of the Fifth Sun, which began in 3114 bc. The Fifth Sun is due to end in ad 2012. On 23 December, to be precise.

   There are several things to keep in mind about the ‘prophecy’. It is only called the ‘prophecy’ by modern westerners. The term was only invented at the end of the 20^th century, and would have been unknown to the Maya. In fact, ‘prophecy’ itself, in the western sense of the word, was unknown to them.

    Further, the actual calendar dates around which the ‘prophecy’ revolves are themselves suspect. The Maya Long Count calendar upon which the ‘prophecy’ is based starts in 3114 BC, yet at that time, there were no Maya, and there were no calendars.

    So, does that mean there is nothing to it? Quite possibly not. Other Maya writings allude to a catastrophic event that may well be a comet or meteor impact. This page will explore this possibility in the coming months.
